Early No Series Nagoya (1):
This was the first full series of Type 99 short rifles made by the Nagoya arsenal. While very similar to other early Nagoya rifle series, there are some distinct differences. These early No Series have a style of numbering more similar to the Nagoya Type 99 Long Rifles.
Rather than the firing pin being numbered on the body, they are numbered on the root of the pin, and the extractors are numbered on it's edge of the extractor close to the bolt face, similar to Tokyo era Type 38's.
The front sight guards are also rounded in appearance. This is in contrast to the squared off style found on the vast majority of Type 99 production.
Many rifles will feature an oval style rear stock sling swivel. This is unique to the Zero and 1st series rifles.
All no series rifles would have originally been made with a dust cover, AA sights, monopod, and long style cleaning rod.

Serial Number locations:
Early No Series Nagoya (1):
Another example of a very early no series Type 99 short rifle, showing similar features to the previous example. This also includes the damage to the stock near the sling swivel from the use of a quick detach sling.
Later production No Series Nagoya:
Later production No Series Nagoya rifles fall more in line with typical 2nd-3rd series production. This includes:
-Moving the location of the extractor serial number on to the rear of the extractor and moving the firing pin number to the firing pin body.
-The front sight will also have the squared off style of guards.
The rear sling swivel on this example still has the oval style, though at this point it could have either this or the normal style of rear swivel.
